With their strong melodies, unique chord progressions, and clever lyrics,  The Kontroversy’s original songs, written by Kevin Sanders and Fred Prellberg, are influenced by the best of the 60s British Invasion and American rock bands, as well as Kevin’s interest in early 20th century American music. Their new Armourdale album is a big leap forward, moving beyond the garage band sound of their earlier recordings.

The musical, Armourdale, is one of five finalists in a New Playwrights Competion at the Olathe Civic Theatre. 10 minutes of it will be read (and sung) March 6 & 7, at 7:30 at the theatre to determine the winner. The theatre is located at 500 E. Loula St., Olathe. The audience will decide the winner. Tickets are $10. Here is a link to purchase tickets:

Armourdale is a musical based on true stories of events that occurred in the Armourdale district of Kansas City, Kansas, located on the Kansas River, also called the “Kaw.” These events take place from 1936 through 1951, when the worst flood in the city’s history devastated the area. The story centers around two families living across the street from each other. Luigi and Assunta Tortorilla, Italian immigrants, their daughter Norma, and seven other children. Bill and Mary (O’Donnell) Sanders, their son, “OD”, and their grandson Tommy.
