With their strong melodies, unique chord progressions, and clever lyrics, The Kontroversy’s original songs, written by Kevin Sanders and Fred Prellberg, are influenced by the best of the 60s British Invasion and American rock bands, as well as Kevin’s interest in early 20th century American music. Their new Armourdale album, which consists of songs from a musical of the same name, written by Kevin, is a big leap forward, moving beyond the garage band sound of their earlier recordings.
The musical, Armourdale, was one of five finalists in a New Playwrights Competition at the Olathe Civic Theatre. 10 minutes of it was performed on March 6 & 7, 2020, at the theatre as part of the competition.
The Kontroversy's new CD, Armourdale, is now available!

Armourdale is a musical based on true stories of events that occurred in the Armourdale district of Kansas City, Kansas, located on the Kansas River, also called the “Kaw.” These events take place from 1936 through 1951, when the worst flood in the city’s history devastated the area. The story centers around two families living across the street from each other. Luigi and Assunta Tortorilla, Italian immigrants, their daughter Norma, and seven other children. Bill and Mary (O’Donnell) Sanders, their son, “OD”, and their grandson Tommy.
